Step 1: Gather your materials. You will need an old pair of jeans (thicker the better), some narrow elastic, and a pattern.
Step 2: To make your pattern first measure your chickens back from the top of their wings to the beginning of their tail; then measure across their back to just under their wings. My pattern is 7 ½ inches from top to bottom and 8 ½ inches from side to side.
Step 3: Cut out two pattern pieces from your denim fabric, and two 6 inch pieces of elastic.
Step 4: Pin your elastic onto one of your pattern pieces with the nice side facing up.
Step 5: Next lay your second pattern piece on top, right sides together. Pin in place leaving a gap to be able to turn the whole thing right side out.
Step 6: Sew around the edges with a ¼ inch seam allowance, remembering to leave a gap. I also like to stitch back and forth a few times on the elastic points just to help reinforce them.
Step 7: Turn the whole thing right side out. Make sure to poke out all the corners.
Step 8: Sew a topstitch all the way around your piece to close up the opening and to give the entire piece a finished look.
Step 9: Put it on your chicken and you are done:)
***to put it on your chicken, gently pull their wing through the elastic***
