** I did this as an experiment to try out a new fiber as well as to produce a lovely keepsake of my two golden retriever puppies, Maehlie and Daisy**
Step 1: I began by brushing my dogs. The best time is to do this in the spring when they are shedding their long winter coat.
Step 2: After gathering brushing them throughout the spring and early summer I had quite a stash. I washed the hair in the sink with some essential oils to decrease the odor. Then let it air dry completely. I used a drying rack lined with mesh and layered the fur evenly.
Step 3: Once dry, I used two soft toothed dog brushes and carded the dog fur to make it light and fluffy as well as to brush out any matts that might be in there.
Step 4: I began spinning the dog hair into singles (that is when there is only one thread). I spun approximately the same amount of dog hair onto two separate bobbins.
Step 5: Next I plied the two bobbins together to create a two-ply yarn.
Step 6: I then used a niddy noddy to make a skein of yarn.
Step 7: And there you have it a beautiful skein of spun dog hair:)
