This basket is handy for harvesting and washing your vegetables.
Step 1: I began by creating the shape that I wanted for my basket. I traced this onto a piece of solid wood. The size I made was 5 ½” H X 13” L.
Step 2: Next I cut them out with a bandsaw. You can also use a jigsaw here.
Step 3: Next I cut two pieces of scrap wood that fit in the notches of the side panels. Mine is 18” in length. I screwed them into place with 1-inch screws, from the top of all four corners as well as from the sides on two of the opposite corners. This made it sturdy.
Step 4: Next I stapled chicken wire on with ½ inch staples. Note you want to have chicken wire that has small holes and is flexible. I used an air compressor staple gun, but you could always use a handheld one.
Step 5: Next I cut two pieces that are the height I wanted for the basket, 12” H, as well as one piece that was the length of my basket, 17 ¾”.
Step 6: I secured the pieces I had cut for the height to the side of my basket with 1-inch screws, making sure to be in the center on both sides. Next, I attached the handle in between those, also with 1-inch screws.
Step 7: And you are done:)
