Step 1: To get started you need a wooden bowl. I woodturned mine but you could also buy one.
Step 2: I first traced out a loop shape on the side of the bowl.
Step 3: I then drilled holes through the middle of my traced lines. This will make the sawing in the next step easier.
Step 4: I placed the bowl in my lap and began to saw. After I went a little way I put tape over the part I just cut in hopes that it would help stabilize the piece.
Step 5: Using a dremel I sanded the loop. You could skip the dremel and just hand sand which I also did but the dremel did make it a little faster.
Step 7: I put a finish of Jojoba oil and Beeswax on all exposed surfaces. If you used a store bought bowl, only the cut loop would need to be sealed.
